Sadio Mane has been, without a doubt, one of the most important players for Liverpool this season. And that’s high praise, considering the competition.
So it was a nervy moment when the Senegalese striker pulled up short after just a half an hour played at Wolves, and gestured toward the sideline to be subbed off. Thankfully, the injury isn’t as bad as it could be, and he should only miss 2-3 matches.
“Sadio will not be involved for West Ham and probably not for Southampton,” Jurgen Klopp said during the pre-match press conference. “After that he should be then fine.
“The week we have then after that is for him perfect to get back on track.
“He has a small muscle tear, which is serious enough to keep him out. We were lucky with the injury as well, so it was not that serious.
“But of course, when you have three games in a week then that means he is out for these three games.”
The attack will likely not be at their free-flowing best without Liverpool’s joint-best attacker, but they should still have enough to get results against West Ham away and Southampton at home.
Hopefully Mane can get fit and back firing for the run-in. He’ll be needed.
