Xherdan Shaqiri seems to have taken up the mantle of perpetually injured attacker that Daniel Sturridge left behind. The Swiss international can’t seem to catch a break, despite the fact that his body looks like it should be indestructible in its thiccness.
Shaqiri didn’t get a chance to feature in Sunday’s win against Manchester United because he received minor calf injury in training. However, the ever-hopeful Shaqiri believes that he should be ready to play on Thursday for the Wolves game.
“It is just slight, I had a little problem in training,” Shaqiri said. “So I hope I might be back later this week. Let’s see, I cannot say now but it will be good if so.”
Shaqiri has only managed to make 10 appearances this season, due to injury and his place down the pecking order. When he does well, though, he’s an excellent addition to Klopp’s arsenal. If he could put a good run of games together, that could only benefit the squad.
After the frustration of this last season, Shaqiri wants to put his injuries behind him and continue to help the team.
“I’m staying positive and I still try to have the opportunity to give my best and to help the team.”
