It hasn’t been a devastating injury crisis at Liverpool despite Jürgen Klopp dealing with so many injuries over the passed couple of months. The squad has dealt well with the reduced numbers and continued to win and climb the Premier League table while their title rivals have struggled.
Now those injured players are returning. Specifically, Joël Matip and Fabinho, who have both been participating in full team training and are expected to be on the bench at Anfield on Sunday against Manchester United.
“Yes, Joël and Fabinho trained completely normal yesterday and the day before,” said Klopp.
“So that means they are likely to be in the squad. The other three, not. But they are getting closer and closer.”
Those other three Klopp mentions would be James Milner, Naby Keita, and Dejan Lovren. Lovren will join in with the big group at Melwood next week. But Klopp admits he still doesn’t have a timeline for either Milner or Keita.
Keita is dealing with a groin problem and Milly has what’s been described as a serious leg muscle injury.
“Dejan will training 100% from Monday on. The other two, I don’t know exactly.”
“When somebody tells me they are ready I’ll take them back in training.”
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana are fit and available for Klopp’s midfield, as is Takumi Minamino, who could be used as an attacking midfielder. Although I don’t expect the manager to throw him in against United from the start.
