There’s good news for Liverpool on the injury front this week, with manager Jürgen Klopp revealing that he expects all three of Fabinho, Joël Matip, and Dejan Lovren to be fit and training with their teammates before the Reds face Manchester United.
Fit and training won’t necessarily mean any will be ready to start, but it wouldn’t be a shock to see perhaps one of the trio in the eleven on Sunday and for another to be on the bench as Liverpool look to keep their domestic unbeaten run going against their rivals.
“It looks like Joel will be in, it looks like Fabinho will be in maybe a day later, [and] Dejan, maybe he can be in as well,” the manager noted today. “That means a lot and helps massively of course. But we will see how it looks. The week is very important.”
Matip, then, appears likeliest to be ready, though with Joe Gomez in good form playing alongside Virgil van Dijk there’s no reason to rush him back if he isn’t—and the same goes for fellow centre half Dejan Lovren. Fabinho, though, is another matter.
With James Milner out injured and still no details on an expected timeline for his return to action, the Reds could certainly use a fit Fabinho—who was arguably Liverpool’s best player in the autumn—back in the matchday squad in time for Sunday’s late kickoff.
“The game on Sunday against United, we all know what people expect from us from that game,” Klopp added. “It will be a big one as well and we try to be ready for that.”
