On June 9th, Xherdan Shaqiri was forced off the pitch due to a calf injury during Switzerland’s Nations League match against England. The frustration of seeing a Liverpool player suffer an injury during a meaningless international fixture is, unfortunately, not a new emotion.

Now that pre-season has official gotten underway, and Liverpool players are trickling back to Melwood, the club has issued a statement about Shaqiri. According to the official site, the club will be monitoring Shaqiri’s injury concerns when he rejoins the team.

There is only a few weeks before the team gets on a plane and heads to the United States for their pre-season fixtures. Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to have as many players as possible available to him, and fans will be hoping to see the famous Powercube live.

Shaqiri’s first season with Liverpool was plagued by injuries issues that limited his time on the pitch. Hopefully this season will see a turnaround in his fortunes on that front.
