Fresh off the news that Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will not be traveling with the rest of the Liverpool squad for their upcoming US tour, the marketing folk had to do something to sweeten the pot a little. Not that they should need to sweeten the pot; Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world and European Champions. Even without Bobby and Sadio, the Reds are formidable opponents.
Regardless, the club would very much like your money and support and especially money for the upcoming US fixtures against Borussia Dortmund (El Kloppico), Sevilla, and Sporting Lisbon. So they got comedian and Liverpool supporter John Oliver to explain his love for the club, and by extension, why you should also support the Reds.
It’s a fun little clip, and clearly Oliver is a fan—making the same jokes about our beloved players and manager that we routinely do. In fact, he pretty much sums up all of our feelings on our charismatic German manager when he says:
“I would like to be squeezed too hard by Jürgen Klopp.”
Is right. Wouldn’t we all?
Amazingly, preseason begins tomorrow. For a long time, I thought I’d be content with canceling football forever, and just basking in the glow of our European Cup triumph. Instead, I’m already getting excited for the new season to begin. I can’t wait to see these mentality (and actual) giants take the pitch again, a sentiment seemingly shared by Oliver.
