New Liverpool cult hero Xherdan Shaqiri, who has impressed in his first year with the team, is looking forward to the challenge of facing Bayern Munich in the Round of 16. The Swiss international played for the German giants for two-and-a-half seasons before moving onto the Premier League. Now he relishes the opportunity to play for Liverpool against them on Tuesday at Anfield and then next month in Munich.

“I was very happy because I wanted to play against Bayern Munich, against my old teammates and my old team. I’m looking forward to the game,” he told the official site.

“It was an amazing time [at Bayern]. Two-and-a-half years I was there and it was amazing; we won a lot of titles, we won the Champions League. We had the best team Bayern Munich had.

“It was an amazing feeling to win so many trophies. I had many great memories there, I will never forget them. I’m really looking forward to going there and trying to win the game in Munich with my team.”

After an injury kept him on the mend, Shaqiri looks ready to jump back into the fray, and Liverpool will really need his creativity — especially if it turns out that Roberto Firmino won’t be available as an option.
