Another game, another huge performance for Liverpool from Sadio Mané.

He just keeps delivering. The Senegal international always has a way of making intelligent decisions in the final third, finding half a yard on a defender, and making decisive contributions. Yesterday was no exception.

“I’m struggling to describe how happy we are,” Mané told the official Liverpool site. “But for sure we are very happy and we deserved to win these three points, which was really important for us.”

“It’s always going to be tough but I think our reaction was perfect,” said the forward. “In the first half it wasn’t our best performance but, like we said, we just had to push hard as a team and give everything and try, try again.

“That’s what we tried to do and at the end we created some chances and we scored two goals. For sure it wasn’t our best performance but we deserved the three points.”

“We have big respect for Manchester City. They are a very good team but we are Liverpool and we are also a very good team. I think it will be a very interesting game and we are looking forward to it.”

After a day in which Pep Guardiola had some nonsense line about diving, it’s fair to say Mané is the talk of the town. Comments like the Manchester City manager’s shouldn’t really matter, because what’s important is that he makes huge impacts in big moments for the team.

There’s no doubt as to how much he is rated internally by Liverpool. And increasingly there isn’t any question about his wider standing in the game. Everyone knows it: Sadio is just an outstanding footballer.
