In the wake of learning that Fabinho is likely out for the entirety of the holiday season of fixtures, Jürgen Klopp must put together a plan for tackling this congested period without Liverpool’s star defensive midfielder.

At his pre-Brighton and Hove Albion press conference, Klopp confessed what a blow it will be for the team to lose Fabinho but the manager was adamant that the Brazilian’s absence wouldn’t affect Liverpool’s ability to win football matches.

One reporter commented on the opportunity that Fabinho’s injury must present to other midfielders waiting for an extended run in the side. Klopp concurred and added that several of his midfielders can cover as defensive midfielder.

“Yes, always, of course,” said Klopp.

“Hendo played the position. Gini played the position already. Adam Lallana played the position. We can change the system. We can do different things.

“Losing a player with the quality of Fabinho is big, it’s massive, really bad.

“You want to push that moment as far as possible to the end of the year. But we cannot change that anymore and we have to find a solution. And we will find a solution.”

Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson, along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a strong midfield for the weekend’s match against Brighton. Klopp will also need Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri to make an impact in the squad over the next month as the manager tinkers with systems along the way.

And who knows, maybe there’ll be an ankle-healing holiday miracle.
