Mohamed Salah wasn’t fit to start against Crystal Palace over the weekend, and when Roberto Firmino scored to put the Reds ahead late it meant Jürgen Klopp could give the star forward a little more rest.
The end result is that the Liverpool manager is feeling bullish about Salah’s recovery from an ongoing ankle issue and about his chances to make an impact from the start against Napoli in the Champions League.
“He looked really good in training,” Klopp replied at his pre-match press conference when asked if Salah would be ready to go. “The day before especially. Yesterday he didn’t do too much but I’m not worried about it.”
Things are looking less promising for Joël Matip, with Klopp admitting the centre half is still “some time away” from returning to training. However, Andrew Robertson is expect to be involved despite his issues.
“It’s been better, to be fair,” Robertson noted. “But I can manage. It can be painful but if you don’t have pain with the amount of games we play then something is wrong. But I feel fresh and hopefully it continues.”
