The unique team set up that will be necessary to see Liverpool through their clogged fixture list in December is starting to take shape.
It was announced that Klopp will travel across the globe to Qatar for the official FIFA competition, leaving the reins of the Reds’ Carabao Cup quarter-final match against Aston Villa in the capable hands of Liverpool Under-23s coach Neil Critchley.
As expected, this implies that the senior squad will be going to Qatar with the boss and that it will be a reserve side handling the domestic cup. It might not split up perfectly even, of course, as there may be some senior players that Klopp wants to rest or some reserve players he believes have earned the experience.
If nothing else, this December will be a fascinating one for the team, with all hands needed on deck in order to make it work. Thankfully, aside from a few niggles, the team appears at just about full strength going into this fixture logjam.
The more important question is how they’ll look coming out of it.
