The Power Cube awaits behind the gate, riled and energetic, ready to spring into action at a moments notice. Xherdan Shaqiri is indeed a powerful presence for Liverpool but Jürgen Klopp has only released Der Kraftwürfel onto a football pitch on three occasions this season and those appearance came only later on in the second half.
But Shaqiri has made much of his thirty-two total minutes for the club. He’s been pressing with gusto and is always moving. Klopp has been very complimentary of the player, both personally and professionally, and there are quite a few supporters who are expecting the Swiss international to make his first start for Liverpool against Southampton on Saturday.
The manager does sound ready to give the player his shot sooner than later.
“Very lively, very positive,” Klopp said of Shaqiri.
“It’s not only from the performances but also as a guy in the dressing room.
“Everyone loves Shaq, that’s how it is, without playing plenty of minutes and that is more my mistake than his.
“He has done everything to play, to be honest. I made different decisions but his time will come, that’s for sure.”
Taking out any one of Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino, or Mohamed Salah from the team sounds unthinkable when you let yourself entertain the notion. But, that’s the reality of rotation and Klopp will have to give Shaqiri a spot in the starting eleven eventually. At home, against a struggling side, with the wind in Liverpool’s sails, could be a mighty fine time to make that happen.
