Liverpool’s Brazilian trio of Roberto Firmino, Alisson, and Fabinho are all expected to be rested for Tuesday night’s friendly against El Salvador, a boost for Liverpool as they face Tottenham Hotspur in the first kickoff of the weekend early on Saturday.
Firmino and Fabinho could still be involved off the bench, but if the expected lineup starts tonight for Brazil it will mean only one start during the international break for Liverpool’s two outfield players, which seems especially positive news in Firmino’s case.
Still, even if getting tonight’s game off is good news, it’s likely they will miss one more day in training ahead of Tottenham than Liverpool’s players who have spent the international break in Europe playing friendlies or in UEFA’s new Nations League.
In the past, Liverpool have joined with the other English sides with players in the Brazil squad to charter a plane, and doing so here—with the game taking place five miles east of Washington, DC—would mean the players being back in training on Thursday.
If the players were to return to Liverpool on commercial flights it’s possible they might miss an extra day of training, though given past international breaks and how Liverpool have managed their Brazilian contingent before that seems unlikely.
Elsewhere in internationals news, Joe Gomez will not face Switzerland in England’s friendly today, though Jordan Henderson and Xherdan Shaqiri could both be involved in that match.
