It took a while with the draw nearly ten days ago now, kickoff half way here, and all the rest of the round’s dates scheduled, but we finally know when Liverpool will host Chelsea in the League Cup. Or the EFL Cup. Or the Carabao Cup.

Whatever one chooses to call it, Liverpool will welcome Chelsea to Anfield at 7:45PM BST on Wednesday, September 26th after organisers belatedly took the only option on the table and moved Everton’s home cup date to the next week.

The problem stemmed from both Liverpool and Everton drawing home in the third round of the cup, with Liverpool set to host Chelsea and Everton hosting Southampton—and a desire to avoid both home games kicking off the same day.

Normally, one would have been scheduled for the Tuesday and the other for the Wednesday and that would have been it, only here both Chelsea and Everton played in the league on Sunday and it was too late to move either game.

That meant neither Chelsea nor Everton was willing to agree to a Tuesday kickoff for their cup tie—and both Liverpool and Chelsea couldn’t postpone their cup tie as both have European commitments the following week.

Neither Everton nor Southampton do, though, and that seemed the obvious—or only— solution, and it’s what has belatedly, officially been agreed, as that match will now kick off a week later on Tuesday, October 2nd.
