Liverpool continue their strong opening to the season with an away win at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace on Monday evening. The man leading the line is Liverpool’s sensational center-back, Virgil van Dijk, who put in another commanding performance against a Palace team who are dangerous in the air.

On a night when Liverpool’s usually stellar attacking triumvirate weren’t firing the way they usually do, the defense stepped up and took control of the game, protecting the Reds’ tenuous lead with nary a wrong move.

Van Dijk was, of course, thrilled with his team’s performance, saying after the game, “It was very important to win here. We know how difficult it is to come here, so to win and keep a clean sheet as well, I’m a very happy man.

“I think we had very good moments but also moments that need to be better, especially in ball possession, but overall we need to be very happy that we won here. It was going to be very tough, we knew before it was going to be a big fight, but we prepared very well, everyone was up for it and you could see that as well.”

There’s one more game of football in August for Liverpool to try to maintain their perfect record. This Saturday they’ll welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Anfield.
