Xherdan Shaqiri Believes “Nothing Is Impossible”

The new boy is raring to go

Occasionally a club will have a player who, for whatever reason, just instantly clicks and forms a strong rapport with the supporters.

Sometimes it doesn’t make sense. Sometimes it’s not always the big money signing, the marquee purchase who is to propel the side to glory. Sometimes it’s a player who, for whatever reason, just feels right. Xherdan Shaqiri is one of those players.

And he’s very excited to get going.

“I came here to win titles”, the Daily Mail reports Shaqiri as saying. “This club needs that ambition. Liverpool is one of the best clubs in the world. We want to be one of the best teams in the world. Nothing is impossible. We can be everything we want to be. We beat Manchester City in the league and the Champions League last season so we can win everything. Whoever we play, we want to go on to the field trying to win the game and dominate the game”.

While it’s always nice to hear that a new signing ‘gets it’, Shaqiri did have some things slightly more substantive to say, adding that “Liverpool had a successful season last year without winning a trophy. Now it’s important to be very good again and to try the last thing. Sometimes you need to know how to win the games you really need to.

“The new players are going to bring more good qualities. With this squad, the coach can rotate and keep the quality in the team. You need that because the Premier League has a lot of big games. I hope we are going to kick on against West Ham and try to give the fans what they deserve: titles”.

It seems notable that Shaqiri here mentions the plans that Jürgen Klopp has to rotate the side. It’s fairly obvious the Switzerland international was bought as a backup option, and while there’s no doubt he’d like to play as much as he can, he does seem to understand what his role in the team will be.

Hopefully he can cause the manager the right kind of problem and make himself very difficult to leave out.
