Any lingering doubts as to whether Mohamed Salah was ready to come back into the squad following the devastating injury from Sergio Ramos in the Champions League final were quickly quelled on the Egyptian’s return to against Manchester City.
Within a minute of coming onto the pitch, Salah nodded home a goal, equalizing for the Reds. And for the rest of his 30 minute cameo he was a constant threat, both for scoring goals and setting up his teammates.
The Egyptian King appears to be healed and ready to go, and has said as much in pre-match interview.
“I am very happy to be back. I feel good and my shoulder is much better. I’m very happy to be back in the squad,” Salah said.
“Last year I had a great season – everyone, not just me. When people talk about myself, yes there is some pressure because it was a [goals] record.
“We also have to improve in the Champions League and finish in a better position in the Premier League.
“But it’s not something I worry about, I just keep doing what I am doing. I am happy about what I am doing, so I just keep doing the same.”
We also hope you keep doing the same. And improving on Liverpool’s 4th place Premier League finish and 2nd place Champions League finish would also be more than welcome! I’m not the best mathematician, but I believe improving on 2nd place would be 1st.
Losing a Champions League final (especially after You Know Who saw to his early exit) would be a high water mark for some players. But Mo seems to be using the disappointment as motivation for pushing on in the upcoming season. Hopefully that will be the case.
