You can forget Right Said Fred and Toni Basil, because James Milner is here to tell you that Liverpool phenom Mohamed Salah is no one-hit wonder. Salah took the first step in proving that when he scored after being on the pitch for less than a minute in Wednesday’s game against Manchester City.
Following the distressing events of the Champions League final that left Salah crying and getting walked off the pitch by medics, Liverpool fans have barely had time to mend their hearts in preparation for this coming season. But seeing Salah smiling and playing alongside teammate and friend Sadio Mané again has done everyone some good.
Liverpool vice-captain and walking dad joke James Milner spoke after the game about Salah and any fears there might be about him repeating the magic of last season.
“The best players in the world aren’t known because they just did it in one season, they do it over and over again,” Milner said.
“He is more than capable of doing that. There is pressure when you have had one good year to deliver again but he is a top player. He’s shown that. He’s going to keep on going.
“We need to keep improving as a side with him as well and make sure that all the pressure is not on his shoulders to deliver goals and get us out of tough situations. It’s down to all of us to help him be the best player he can and do that as part of a team.”
New recruits Naby Keïta, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Alisson Becker will hopefully do their parts to help Salah and the whole team continue to improve this season.
