After missing the majority of last season with a persistent back injury, Nathaniel Clyne is expected to challenge Trent Alexander-Arnold for what used to be his regular spot this year. The message that the 27-year old had been sent back home to England, prematurely ending his participation in Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the US, then, could cause some concern among fans that the former Southampton man’s injury troubles have caught up with him again.
Thankfully, Clyne has not been dispatched back to the UK for health issues, but rather due to unspecified family reasons, and it is expected that he will join up with the Reds at their training camp in France next week.
Elsewhere, star of the pre-season thus far, Naby Keïta is set to miss training for a few days with a sore neck, sustained during training ahead of Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Manchester City on Wednesday. The Guinean missed the match, and will not be training for the next couple of days, but has not been ruled out for Sunday’s clash with Manchester United.
With Joël Matip already back in Liverpool after suffering a muscle injury against Dortmund, Premier League kickoff only two weeks away, and expectations higher than ever, Jürgen Klopp will undoubtedly hope to avoid further decimation of his squad during the rest of their US visit.
