After their lose to Chelsea on Saturday, Liverpool are looking down the barrel at two season defining games to end the season. The first up is the final league game against Brighton, which has now become a must win affair if the Reds want to secure a spot in the top four. The second is the Champion League final against Real Madrid happening on May 26th. Both games have the power to make or break Liverpool’s season.
Andy Robertson, Liverpool’s new revelation at left-back, discussed the weeks ahead and how the team need to prepare for the biggest few weeks of many of their careers.
“Effectively, we have got two cup finals now,” Robertson said.
We can’t think about Kiev. We know the media and the fans will be focused on that but for us it’s all about Brighton. We know that if we win our final game we will be in the top four, regardless of how the other results go. It’s going to be a massive game. Getting in the top four has been our main objective since the start of the season. We need to tick that off by beating Brighton. All our work this week will be going towards achieving that.”
Regarding tired legs and their packed Spring schedule, Robertson added, “We’ve got a full week building up to Brighton which we haven’t had for a while. That can only benefit us. We would have liked to have got the job done before the final weekend of the season. Recent league results haven’t been good enough.
“But we’ve got to put that behind us now. Everyone is fighting for places and all the lads are training hard. We will be ready to go. We want to get those three points to secure the top four. We need a big push and we need everyone behind us for that.”
Chelsea and Spurs both play their game in hand on Wednesday, and if they both win, then it will be game on for everyone when the season ends on Sunday.
