Santa is just showering us with presents this holiday season. Liverpool are four points clear at the top of the league, most of the team is fit and happy, Virgil van Dijk continues to exist, and all generally wonderful in Liverpool Country.
And lo, on Christmas Eve, that jolly Red man did give us one more gift. This time, though, the man in red wasn’t Santa Clause. This time it was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has been out recovering from knee surgery for the better part of a year, posting an Instagram photo of him triumphantly getting back on the pitch.
He won’t be starting against Newcastle — in fact, he’s likely not even anywhere near ready to even start training yet, but this is still positive news. Oxlade-Chamberlain had a hugely positive effect on the Reds when he joined last season, and it was a real blow to lose him.
When he returns next season, it will be a huge boost to an already impress midfield.
