While Tuesday was a good day to be a Liverpool fan, with the Reds barely making it through the group stages of the Champions League under the lights of a gloriously raucous Anfield, it didn’t come without its consequences. Joël Matip, who played all 90 minutes of the match, came off the pitch in considerable pain.

The problem in his shoulder lead the Liverpool staff to send him to the hospital to immediately get the problem tested. It’s unknown so far the extent of the problem and if it will end up meaning that Matip misses any matches.

For the first time in a long time, Liverpool have a fully staffed and effective back line, but Joe Gomez is already out of commission for the next six weeks — meaning Klopp’s first choice to partner with Virgil van Dijk will be missing the whole of the festive period. If Matip is out as well, that leaves van Dijk and Dejan Lovren as the two remaining senior center-backs to get the team through the tough run of games.

Matip wasn’t the only Liverpool player that had came out of Tuesday’s game worse for wear. James Milner and Trent Alexander-Arnold both went off due to injury, though Milner may have only been suffering from cramp. Similarly Sadio Mané also seemed to experience some problems after the match.
