Jürgen Klopp Downplays His Winning Record Against Everton

The Liverpool manager is not about to let his historical success over Everton go to his head. It goes to his heart.

Jürgen Klopp has enjoyed good fortune against Everton since becoming the Liverpool manager. In three years on Merseyside, Klopp has faced Everton six times, winning four and drawing two. Those numbers are a good recipe for confidence in the Red’s squad on Sunday but this current Everton side can’t quite be compared to those under previous managers.

Klopp waved off any suggestion that his record against Everton should in any way inform his preparations for Sunday’s match.

“I am not a bit interested,” said Klopp. “It’s not important – different teams, different managers, different times. Everything is different.

“I don’t know last year who we played before [the derby], was it after one week preparation? Was it in a very busy period or whatever? I don’t know because it’s not important. What’s important is we are prepared for this game and that’s what we have to make sure.

“You can’t make anything with these results in the past or whatever, it’s just good that we won these games and got results from these games.”

Marco Silva will be the fourth manager Klopp has greeted at a Merseyside derby. The ex-Watford boss will lead out a strong team at Anfield that has been performing well in the league this season. Everton are faster and more positive than under recent managers. Expect a speedy match and sharp performances from both sides.
