Sadio Mané has been struck down with an illness and is now a doubt for Liverpool’s Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool will face off against the defending Ligue 1 champions at the Parc des Princes in Paris on Wednesday night and will travel to France on Tuesday ahead of the Group C fixture. The match is an important one as a win over PSG will guarantee Liverpool’s qualification for the knockout phase of the UCL.

Sadio Mané recently signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool which runs until 2023, ensuring that the best front three in the Premier League will be with the club for years to come, with Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah having signed their long-term contracts earlier this year. Mané was in high spirits on the weekend after Liverpool beat Watford by three goals to nil (WAT 0 – 3 LIV) at Vicarage Road, stating that the Reds are more than able and have the right mentality to defeat PSG, during an interview with French football program, Telefoot. Saturday’s match was the 13th of the Premier League campaign and Liverpool (along with Manchester City) remain unbeaten.

Mané was set to be part of the pre-match press conference which will be hosted by Jürgen Klopp at the Parc des Princes stadium shortly after the Reds arrive in Paris on Tuesday. Klopp however, will be making the final decision regarding Mané’s fitness on Tuesday morning and the winger will be assessed after the Reds complete their final training session at Melwood before setting off on their trip. Mané will be granted every opportunity to show that he has recovered from his illness and is well enough to travel. Let’s hope that he shakes it off by the time the first team squad needs to be announced and makes it onto the team sheet!

Liverpool’s clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday will be their 201st match on the European stage. The Reds will be playing in their home kit and will thus be in all-red, while PSG will be sporting all-white after electing to play in their away strip for the UCL match. The Reds already have a slight upper-hand going in after beating PSG 3 - 2 in September at Anfield and will look to do more of the same come Wednesday night!
