All three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mané have now signed improved contracts at Liverpool. Mané made his commitment to the club official on Thursday, giving Saturday’s traveling Reds a little extra kick when Liverpool take on Watford at Vicarage Road.
Mané has surpassed expectations since his arrival from Southampton in 2016. The Senegalese forward is the full package. He’s fast, he’s clever, he’s aware, he’s humble, he’s arrogant, and he scores goals. He does it from here and there and everywhere with an effortless athleticism, too.
Sadio Mané has become an elite player at Liverpool. And just like Salah and Firmino, Mané is key to Jürgen Klopp’s plans and key to Liverpool’s success. All three players have several prime footballing years ahead of them and will be targets for any big clubs out there. But Klopp believes in the power of consistency and the longer he can keep his core group together the farther Liverpool will go. Thankfully, the owners agree.
“We have to make sure it stays like this,” Klopp said.
“If you aren’t in that situation, you have to try to come in that situation where players don’t want to leave.
“Now we’re in a situation where players don’t want to leave, we need to perform constantly at our highest level - that’s the next challenge.
“Signing a contract takes 10 seconds, the rest around it is qualifying for that signing and using the clear situation. You don’t have to worry about what anyone writes, you just have to play your best football.
“I’m not interested in it being a statement for other clubs, it’s more a statement for us. We all know that these players could earn a lot of money at a lot of clubs around the world.
“It’s not about that. It’s about do they think they are in this moment at the right club. It’s obvious that they think that. So, that’s good.”
Elite players renewing their commitments to Liverpool speaks well of the club’s rising stature under FSG and Klopp. The football has improved massively, players are being properly compensated for their achievements, and Liverpool is a destination again.
