There are three goalkeepers at Liverpool this season, but there can only be be number one. Despite a season where both Loris Karius and Danny Ward will be given chances, Simon Mignolet is still the club’s number one. On Saturday, the Belgian international was very busy as Manchester City feasted on Liverpool.
Mignolet, though, is looking forward to a return to the Champions League group stages against Sevilla. This isn’t a case of forgetting about a terrible result, especially considering it turned out to be Liverpool’s second biggest defeat in the Premier League era. The task, however, is this: remember the lessons of such a day but also apply them to help push the club forward.
"We have to take the first 20 minutes and how we played before the international break and take it into the next game," Mignolet said.
"Of course we can’t neglect the performance after that, we have to keep it in mind, but we have another game midweek when we can prove ourselves again.
"That’s probably a good thing, the game comes early and we can put things right, change it again."
We go again; there is no alternative.
