What a game. When Roberto Firmino was brought in from Hoffenheim (as it happens) by the transfer committee under Brendan Rodgers, it was always assumed he would play as an attacking midfielder, not an out-and-out striker.
However, Jürgen Klopp, already familiar with the Brazilian from his Bundesliga days, knew what a potent weapon Firmino could be. It wasn’t long into Klopp’s reign when Firmino began regularly leading the line as part of a versatile front three. And under Klopp, when Bobby Firmino has a big game, so does the rest of the squad.
Last night, Firmino had a very big game. He was instrumental, either directly or indirectly, in setting up the first three goals. When he wasn’t pressing like mad and driving at or dribbling around defenders, he was picking out his teammates in dangerous spots. And then capped the night off by adding his name to the score sheet with an easy first-time finish. And then publicly joined #teamnopants, as you do.
It was a big performance in a season defining game (hopefully with much more to come). You can check out an every-touch compilation below.
