Brendan Rodgers Hopeful of an Anfield Return

With Celtic, that is.

Don’t want to hear about transfer news in this never ending, highly disappointing window? Good, because I don’t want to write about it either.

So hey, remember in the before times? In the long, long ago? Life before Klopp? No, I’m not talking about the Hodgpocalypse. Right! Brendan Rodgers! We had some good times with Rodgers, right? I mean, before Luis Suarez left, Daniel Sturridge became permanently broken, and everything turned to shit.

Regardless of whether you were #BROut early or late, you have to admit we had some good times with the former boss. And for his part, Rodgers has always spoken fondly of the Merseyside club, so it’s reasonable to have a bit of a soft spot for him.

Now, with both his former and current clubs with one foot in the door of the Champions League group stages, he admits that he would enjoy returning to Anfield with Celtic.

“Whoever we get, if we were in the same group as Liverpool it would be amazing. That would be a special meeting in more ways than one .”

That would be great! And it seems likely. The football gods love narrative.

Celtic won their first playoff leg in a 5-0 walk in Celtic Park, and now have to defend their sizeable lead against Astana on the return. Of course, Liverpool face a tougher test as they return home with a slim advantage.

Let’s hope Brendan gets his wish!
