Having successfully undergone knee surgery in April, Sadio Mané has now begun solo training sessions at Melwood and is expected to join full training with his teammates over the next ten days and to be fully involved in the second phase of pre-season ahead of the 2017-18 season.
It’s a timeline that will rule Mané out from appearing in the club’s first two pre-season games, against Tranmere on the 12th and Wigan on the 14th, but he will likely be ready to take part when Liverpool head to Hong Kong to take part in the Premier League Asia Trophy tournament.
There, Liverpool are set to face Crystal Palace on the 19th while West Brom and Leicester City also face off, with the winner and loser of each match being paired up for a “final” on the 22nd. All of the games in the Asia Trophy tournament will be played at Hong Kong Stadium.
Meanwhile, with few international commitments for many of the club’s players in a summer without a World Cup, Euros, or Copa America, much of the first team squad had their second day of pre-season today and their first training sessions on the ball following Wednesday’s return.
A handful of star stragglers, including Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana, and Emre Can, will return over the next few weeks and are also expected not to face Tranmere or Wigan next week.
