Simon Mignolet: Liverpool Hungry for Silverware

The Reds keeper believes Liverpool are in position to win honours.

Simon Mignolet finished the 2016-2017 season on a high note. His goalkeeping through the latter half of the season was consistently good and after four consecutive clean sheets in the last four games of the season, Liverpool are a play-off away from the Champions League group stages.

A top-four finish was a strong end to the last season, but the Belgian international believes that the team’s determination is going to help Liverpool push for a trophy in the next year.

“[The top-four finish] gives us the platform again to go for that trophy next year and this is what I want and what the lads in the dressing room want,” Mignolet told the club’s official magazine.

“Last year, we had the chance to play in two finals, but unfortunately we lost both of them. We have learned from that and I think everybody - not only the players, but also the fans and everybody connected with Liverpool Football Club - is really hungry for silverware. That’s what we have to challenge for next year.”

The added thrill of competing in the Champions League is motivating the squad too, Mignolet believes.

“The European nights at Anfield are brilliant,” Mignolet said. “I experienced games against Real Madrid in the Champions League when we were last in it and obviously we had big nights in the Europa League against Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund.

“They were both very special and everybody here is very pleased to know we will have more European games to look forward to next season.”

Here’s hoping that Mignolet keeps doing what he’s been doing and we see plenty more European nights at Anfield.
