When it comes to injuries, Mamadou Sakho is one player who can’t catch a break. After finally getting back on the pitch thanks to a loan spell to Crystal Palace, the French defender was ruled out of the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Crystal Palace fans immediately loved Sakho following his January switch to the team. His excellent defending was a highlight of a strong second half to the Eagles’ season. Similar to his experience at Liverpool, the defender became a cult hero at Selhurst Park, and hearts were broken when he was carried off the pitch on a stretcher at the end of April.

Seems the recovery is going along well, though, as Sakho posted a tweet showing him beginning light training without crutches or a knee brace.

Eagled-eyed (see what I did there?) viewers were quick to note that the player is training in his Crystal Palace apparel, fueling dreams that he might be headed to Croydon permanently.

While Sakho’s future is up in the air at the moment, what’s clear is that he won’t be with Liverpool next season. It’s also true that any team who wants him will have to put up a good sum for his services — especially after his strong showing for Crystal Palace.

Many of us at TLO are big fans of Mama, and it will be a real shame to see him leave this summer. One thing we won’t miss, however, are his constant injuries that kept him out of the team for long stretches, further weakening an already uncohesive back line.

We’re glad to see that he’s recovering well from the most recent one, however, and appears to be in good spirits.
