After a successful post-season/very early pre-season match in Australia, Liverpool’s globe-trotting summer has already begun. We knew that Liverpool would be back in Asia this summer, as well as in Munich for the two-day Audi Cup, and now we have more details about the former.
Liverpool will be joined by fellow Premier League clubs Crystal Palace, Leicester City, and West Bromwich Albion on July 19th and 22nd in Hong Kong.
Other than Liverpool, the competition organizers hardly got the best and brightest teams to participate, but at least this will be good practice against teams who like to sit back and defend.
Also, it should be highly entertaining to see Tony Pulis sweating and being his normal miserablist self in the Hong Kong summer heat and humidity. Something tells me he’s the type of traveler who brings a full suitcase full of his favorite biscuits so he doesn’t have to eat any of the local cuisine.
Jurgen Klopp is not that type of traveler though, and he seems to be quite pleased at life (generally) and this competition (specifically).
“We’re really looking forward to playing in the Premier League Asia Trophy this summer,” Klopp told the official club website.
“It’s important that the club takes part in competitions like this as it gives local fans the opportunity to get closer to the action.
“The club has a huge fanbase in Hong Kong and we hope to put on a good performance for our fans.”
The last (and only) other time Liverpool participated in this pre-season competition was a decade ago, in 2007. Alas, if only we could arrange to play a Pulis side just once a decade (or preferably not at all).
