We wish we could have every player available for Liverpool’s last game of the season at Anfield. Such an extraordinary turn of events would be great for our feelings. But also, since we would very, very much like to win that game, it would be just terrific to have every option available for Jürgen Klopp on Sunday against Middlesbrough.
Alas, Jordan Henderson, he of the slow-healing feet. The captain and others will not be making any triumphant returns before this season ends. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still hold on hope for Roberto Firmino to shake off the injury that has kept him out of the team recently.
When asked about Firmino at today’s pre-Middlesbrough presser, Klopp was very confident about Liverpools’s high-energy forward making the final squad.
“It’s very positive,” said Klopp.
“He was not part of team training but that’s not a problem after this long season. We will make a final test tomorrow.”
“At this stage I’d rather say yes than maybe.”
If I know Roberto Firmino, and I don’t, but if I did I’d know he would want to play in this game. Last game of the season. Champions League football on the line. At Anfield. He’ll be telling everyone how much he wants to play in this game, injury be damned.
A likely scenario we could see is Daniel Sturridge starting, getting off to another flying start and then Firmino coming off the bench in the second half to continue the bedazzlement. We can score so many goals and win the game. Good formula. Would recommend.
But for now, we wait.
