Liverpool midfielder Kevin Stewart’s season has abruptly ended after the player had surgery on a hernia that had developed. The surgery happened on Friday, and Stewart is consequently expected to miss the rest of the season.
The 23-year-old hasn’t featured for Klopp’s side since January, but has been performing well with the U23s then. Though Stewart just signed a five-year contract with the Reds last November, keeping him at Anfield until 2021, the fact that he couldn’t fight his way into Klopp’s injury-ridden team does cast doubt on his future.
Liverpool have been suffering a bit of an injury crisis, with Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana both long term absences from the midfield. Klopp has put his faith in other young prospects such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Woodburn, and even Rhian Brewster recently, but not Stewart.
Regardless, Liverpool only have four games left to play this season, so Stewart will won’t miss much as he begins his recovery post-surgery.
