Mané Named Liverpool Player of The Month

I’ve been proved right about Sadio Mané becoming a superstar at Liverpool and I’m feeling very superior about it, if you must know. I just have a eye for attacking talent, I guess. I wasn’t all that surprised that Mane began his Anfield career in astounding form. Straight of the gate. Cannonball. I knew he would. I also knew his absence from the team while at AFCON with Senegal would be felt and it was, sorely. Me. It certainly wasn’t the sole cause of the team’s capitulation heading into the new year but it did mean that he wasn’t available to aid any swift comeback through January. In short, Sadio Mané fitting so effortlessly into this Liverpool team is a masterstroke from myself, Jürgen Klopp and the transfer heads. Mané’s speed, balance, his athleticism on the ball make him indispensable and thankfully everybody is realizing how right I was all along, how utterly and fantastically right. Mané has been voted Liverpool’s February Player of the Month.

“I’m very happy to be nominated by the fans,” said the man who Gini Wijnaldum recently called ‘chilled’ and “relaxed.’ “I’m looking forward to doing my best for the team.

“It was a difficult few weeks. We were struggling and it wasn’t easy for us, for the club and for the fans. But it’s part of football.

“Now it’s behind us and the confidence is back. We’re going to do our best until the end of the season to make the fans proud and happy.”

Sadio has scored twelve goals for Liverpool so far this season and will have the opportunity to significantly add to that tally before the last gate closes in May. But he and the team will need to get their mojo back for that to happen. Strong and relentless performances are required from here on out. Anfield demands it but, as new players like Mané are discovering, it offers rich rewards for spirit.
