Mané Joined Liverpool For Klopp

The Senegal national has prioritized career development over a higher salary.

I don’t know about you, but I am 100% here for the Klopp lovefest that we’ve been awash with recently. I am also 100% here for said lovefest being driven by the Liverpool squad. For today’s edition of Klopp Love, we turn to Sadio Mané (and his agent).

Bjorn Bezemer, Mané’s agent, gave a wonderful interview to the Guardian where he discussed the player’s approach to maximizing his own development (which, quite frankly, deserves at least five in-depth articles in and of itself). When the topic of Mané’s move to Liverpool came up, Bezemer highlighted the role that Klopp played in the final decision.

“It was the same when he left Salzburg – we wanted to make the right step in the right club at that moment,” Bezemer said. “I knew Jürgen Klopp from Germany and thought that he could be the right coach to take [Mané] forward after Southampton. You never know what will happen so it can be a bit of guesswork. We tried to find out about Liverpool before he committed himself to them and it is not only the coach, the whole club is top professional. I think it worked out pretty well.”

Given Mané’s performance this season (he’s had 11 goals and 4 assists in 22 appearances, and is a pleasure to watch even when he’s not scoring), I’d say it’s worked out pretty decently for Liverpool, too.
