As expected, Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has today put pen to paper on a new three-year deal that will keep him at the club through at least the 2020 season. The deal includes an option for a fourth year that would extend the contract through to the summer of 2021.
The contract is believed to be worth £110k per week, marking a significant increase on the £65k per week deal he signed when he arrived at the club from Southampton in the summer of 2014 in £25M transfer deal. If the extension is exercised, it would keep him under contract until just after his 33rd birthday.
“Signing for a club like Liverpool is obviously a big thing,” Lallana told the club’s official website following news of his signing being made official this afternoon. “But to re-sign shows you’ve obviously contributed enough that the people who make the decisions want you to stay longer.
“This is a really good place to be at the moment and, for a player who wants to be part of something special, I can’t think of a better club to commit your future to. We have a brilliant squad of players who are only going to get better the longer we are together, [and] we have a world-class manager and coaching staff.”
Though Lallana struggled at times under Brendan Rodgers to rediscover the best form from his Southampton days, his stature has grown under Jürgen Klopp following the German’s arrival last season, and the England international has become one of the first names on the teamsheet for Liverpool’s manager.
So far this season, Lallana has seven goals and seven assists in 23 league appearances, good for a goal involvement every 124 minutes, a number that places him firmly amongst the upper echelon of creative midfielders in England and Europe. To that stellar production line, he adds a tireless workrate.
