Liverpool’s hopes for progressing out of the Champions League group stages come down to Wednesday when they take on Spartak Moscow in the final group game. After allowing themselves to lose a three-goal lead to Sevilla last week, Liverpool stand a chance of ending up in the Europa League.

They need a result against the Russian team in order to ensure progression. In their previous encounter, the two teams drew 1-1 in a match that Liverpool fans expected more out from.

Georginio Wijnaldum, while discussing the upcoming important fixture, hit on who he thinks will be a problem for Liverpool: his Dutch teammate Quincy Promes.

Promes is Spartak Moscow’s top scorer, and he was out injured when the Reds traveled to Russia. He’s back now, though, and Gini expects him to be a handful.

“Promes is a real threat,” he said. “I think he has already showed that in their league games when he has played. He has scored a lot of goals and given a lot of assists.

“He is a player that needs a lot of thought. Spartak are a good team to be fair. They were better than I expected in the first game.

“They had a few missing that night, including Promes, but now they are stronger.”

Another draw guarantees Liverpool passage in the Round of 16, but they’ll be looking to score a win in order to top the group.

With the form they’ve been in and the fact that it’s at Anfield, this feels like a game that Liverpool should win. However, our guys always do like to do things the hard way, so it’s not hard to imagine a situation where they are cutting it close all the way to the end.
