Watch: Alberto Moreno So Far This Season

The Morenaissance continues apace.

Isn’t international break fun? One of the surprise call-ups in this break is Liverpool’s like a new signing leftback, Alberto Moreno. The attack-minded fullback entered the summer as a player most assumed would be shipped out as soon as possible after slipping behind midfielder-turned-leftback James Milner in the pecking order. When Jurgen Klopp brought in Scottish international Andy Robertson, it only confirmed that Moreno’s days on Merseyside were numbered.

Then something funny happened. Moreno started turning in some fantastic performances in the preseason, and his form continued through the beginning part of the campaign. Instead of shuffled out the door to the highest bidder, he is one of the first names on the team sheet. In a team with buckets of defensive liabilities, he, shockingly, isn’t one of them.

Not only has Moreno so far avoided many of the rash challenges and poor decisions that plagued his early Liverpool career, but he has also improved going forward. He provides a pacy outlet down the left flank and has tallied three assists so far, equalling Sadio Mane as joint-best across all competitions.

Hopefully, unlike the false dawn of the Lovrenaissance, the Morenaissance will prove to be a bit more permanent. Regardless, you can enjoy some of the highlights of Moreno’s 2017/18 campaign so far in the compilation video below:
