Former Red, Dirk Kuyt, believes Anfield gives Liverpool the edge they need against Chelsea this Saturday. The Dutch international spoke with the club’s official website at the launch of the LFC Legends vs. Bayern Munich game about his perspective on the upcoming fixture.
“Liverpool playing at Anfield should always be favourites,” Kuyt said. “It doesn't matter which side is coming to Anfield. With the supporters and the crowd behind them, they should always be favourites and they should always play the game to win it and I'm sure they will play the match like that.”
“Liverpool and Chelsea are both very good teams,” Kuyt added. “But I think Liverpool especially is developing. What I can see from Liverpool now is that they are growing. They are in a very interesting part of the season, and I'm quite confident that the side can get many points during Christmas and get many wins.”
Beyond having the support of their fans around them, Liverpool have the added bonus of both Joel Matip and Adam Lallana back in contention for the game. After the mid-week disaster that was the Sevilla game, having fresh players in midfield and defense can only be a positive thing. Liverpool will be looking to continue their streak of not losing to the Blues (the last five meetings have seen 2 wins and 3 draws for the Reds) on Saturday. Here’s hoping the team (and the magic of Anfield) can make that happen.
