Yes, Liverpool need to have as many quality players as possible right now. Signings are needed in key positions if Jürgen Klopp finally sees that his team’s defensive spine is unacceptable, but a trio of key players are missing: Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, and Sadio Mané.

Lallana is arguably the team's tactical leader, Mané is probably Liverpool's sharpest edge, and Clyne offers a largely dependable presence at right back that could help Joe Gomez settle in more easily at centre back should Klopp decide to drop Dejan Lovren.

All three, however, will be of no help to Liverpool until after the third international break of the season. When club football returns to its proper place once again, only two are possibilities for selection.

"Very good, but no option for tomorrow, no option for Wednesday and no option for West Ham," Klopp said on the missing triumvirate. "After the international break, I think Adam and Sadio are back. It will be close, so hopefully they can train during the international break and be part of the normal training.

"Adam was this week, for the first time, part of the warming up. His face showed how happy he was about this! I saw in the last hour them both with the fitness coaches on the pitch doing technical things and stuff like this, so it all looks good.

"In the end they all need to be at 100 per cent and they aren’t at the moment, so that’s it – but they’re on a good way."
