While Tottenham left back Danny Rose was ultimately a hero for his team on Saturday due to his equalizer against Liverpool, much of the game was a challenge for him. After all, he was tasked with tracking Sadio Mané, who has been a breakout star for Liverpool this season.
Following the match, Rose spoke highly of how Mané played against Tottenham. He labelled the Senegalese winger's pace "frightening," according to the Echo.
"It was probably the hardest game I've had in the last few years, chasing Mane up and down," Rose said. "But overall a point is a fair result."
Even on his goal, which leveled the score at one, the left back claimed he was wary of venturing forward because it might have allowed Mané to get behind the defense on a quick counter attack.
"I took a gamble," Rose said. "I didn't want to go forward too much ... but I managed to get in at the back post."
It's nice for Liverpool to once again have a player like Mané with the pace to keep opposing defenders on edge. It will be interesting to see just how good he can be this year.
