We. The people of Liverpool Country. We've barely had time to rub our eyes, pinch ourselves and absorb the reality that Jürgen Klopp is the manager of Liverpool Football Club. The last 9 months. The blur. The euphoria. Tracking the man's plane from Germany to Liverpool, for crying out loud. That excitement. We've not lost any of it.
But Fenway Sports Group have decided to ramp up that elation anyhow. The news of Jürgen Klopp and his men being offered and accepting six year extensions to their contracts is just... kaboom, eye-watering. Signed up until 2022. Try frowning about it. Impossible. Like trying to skip while you're angry. And staying angry. Not happening, buckaroo.
The sheer volume of happy face emojis that must be peppered across all of our feeds... my goodness gracious.
The statement from FSG includes high praise for Jürgen Klopp. His plan. His experience. Citing Jürgen's "commitment to overall improvement and development" as a key motivator for the extension."In Jürgen we have someone who is always looking ahead, always looking beyond his own wants and needs and putting the club first.
This is the manager, the leader, that FSG believe, we all believe (Is there anyone left who doesn't believe?) will guide Liverpool FC to the top of the Premier League table. Back up on top of the world. How about that?
"He is a world-class managerial talent and his leadership will be critical to everything we hope to achieve in the years ahead."
Critical. To everything we hope to achieve. Klopp has the FSG board absolutely buzzing. You just know it. This is about long term success of the club. Not just the players, the team. The club. And, in my opinion, he is critical. He is crucial to the current and future state of LFC. Vital to the players he has brought into the club. Essential to training, guiding and introducing the young bucks to his team. Klopp is, in a word, major-big-time to it all.
It's an exciting time to be witness to, really. We have what is as close as we can get to the promise of seeing Jürgen Klopp's vision for Liverpool realized.
No, if you'll excuse me, I've got some emojis to attend to.
