Having impressed for Liverpool in the second half of the 2015-16 season, Sheyi Ojo had been hoping to secure a place in manager Jürgen Klopp’s plans this summer in pre-season. As a direct result of that impressive play last season, though, it looks like he won’t get the chance to.
Ojo was officially named to England’s 18-man final squad for the UEFA U19 Euros that kick off next week and running through the end of July. England kick off the tournament against hosts France on the 12th before taking on the Dutch and Croatia to round out group play in the eight team tournament.
The top two sides from each group progress to a semi-final and final, set for July 21st and 24th. Ojo is expected not to join up with his Liverpool teammates for the North American tour regardless of how far England go at the U19 Euros, though he will re-join the squad for the final weeks of pre-season.
Liverpool’s final pre-season tour date is the 2nd of August against Roma, after which they are set to return to England for ten days and two further friendlies—against Barcelona at Wembley and a trip to Germany to face Mainz. The season then kicks off on the 13th of the month when they face Arsenal.
Last season, Ojo made eight Premier League and three FA Cup appearances for Liverpool. He tallied a goal and four assists in 450 minutes of action for the club after returning from his autumn loan spell with Wolves.
