Kolo Touré's departure was announced earlier, prompting much sadness and reminiscing for a departing fan favourite. Touré and other players who have been released from their contracts at Liverpool feature in the Premier League released and retained list, and for the curious, all the details for the 20 clubs that took part in 2015/16 can be found there.

The more senior names will be of no surprise, but there are a number of youngsters who will no longer get an opportunity to continue their developmeant at Liverpool. Although players being released, signed, and sold all represent part of the way things are in football, it is hoped that those young players will find chances to continue their development and career elsewhere.

Tom Brewitt, Daniel Cleary, William Marsh, Ryan McLaughlin, Alex O'Hanlon, Kristof Polgar, José Enrique, Kolo Touré, and Samed Yesil will not have their professional contracts extended. Joshua Dobie, Andrew Firth, Kane Lewis, Callum Nicholas, Jack Watts, and Owen Wheeler are the Academy players who join professional contract departures. Liverpool will continue to let players go during the course of the summer as Jürgen Klopp seeks to shape his squad.

There is, however, the matter of João Carlos Teixeira's contract. The 23-year-old has been offered a new deal but has yet to agree a deal with the club at the most dangerous/fun/depressing/confusing time of the year for Liverpool fans. There hasn't been much news on the player's future of late, leaving the player's future uncertain.

Will Teixeira stay at 23 or decide that he is too old to wait for an opportunity to play regular football? The answer might lie in the options he has, but the presence of Jürgen Klopp might provide a compelling reason to stay at Anfield if the club has chosen to retain the player.
