Jürgen Klopp Will Give Lazar Marković Chance to Impress

The 22-year-old winger will be given an opportunity to show what he can do in the summer.

Who will make Jürgen Klopp's squad next season? Liverpool's manager has preached and practised patience since succeeding Brendan Rodgers. Whether a player is injured or on loan, they should be excited at the prospect of linking up with the charismatic German. Klopp has earned his reputation through rebuilding and pushing clubs forward over a number of years. At his third club and his first job beyond his native land, there is an opportunity to be part of something special.

October to May along with a pre-season programme is more than enough to judge the current squad, and if any player is deemed unsuitable for the former Borussia Dortmund manager's way of working, neither time nor opportunity can be levelled at Klopp. For Lazar Marković -- back at Melwood with a groin injury -- his performances in Turkey for Fenerbahçe along with summer preparations for 2016/17 will secure a place in Klopp's plans or a permanent move elsewhere.

"Lazar has a muscle problem so he is back for us at the moment," Klopp revealed. "You will have to ask the doctor for the exact diagnosis but he's not available. He's not our player for this season so he will have to go back. We had a little talk about things. I said at the start of pre-season you will be very welcome and then it's up to you. That is how it is in football. It's a long pre-season and if he wants to come back to Liverpool in July he's welcome.

"We are short on wingers. Everybody who is involved in pre-season can have a part to play next season. We need a big squad because of the European Championships. Pre-season is a long time to show what you have and then after this we'll make decisions."

Marković turned 22 on Wednesday, and in my opinion, he possesses considerable potential. Liverpool's lack of pace and width will be something that Klopp will try to remedy this summer, and it's always best to look within before venturing into the transfer market. Klopp has made it clear that what is enough for a player to show whether he has what it takes to be part of Liverpool's squad moving forward, and if Marković applies himself, he could find himself enjoying a second chance at Liverpool.
