Liverpool's round of 16 Europa League matchup with Manchester United has all the makings of a classic encounter. On top of being a fierce rivalry, there is the prize of Champions League qualification for the winner of the Europa League on the horizon, and both sides should be going full-throttle for victory.
Manchester United have moved to create an edge in their away tie at Anfield next Thursday by giving away free white shirts to all traveling supporters, according to the Mirror.
The goal, as stated in an e-mail from the club to its supporters, is to create a wall of white and "generate the best possible atmosphere."
While this seems like an artificial way to get behind the team -- and costly for United at a reported £34.99 to make each shirt -- its a nice way to build up intensity heading into the match. It will be interesting to see how many United fans show up wearing the shirts, as well as the reception the move gets from the Anfield faithful.
