Although almost all Liverpool supporters (and players) would have preferred beating Manchester City on Sunday night, pulling the league double over the Sky Blues--with a +6 goal differential, no less--is still an impressive feat. Captain Jordan Henderson attributes anger over the cup final defeat for the positive result last night.
"We definitely channeled the anger," Captain Honey Badger told the club's official website. "We felt they took something from us at the weekend that maybe we deserved, but tonight we made sure that we took the three points. Our focus was just solely on winning the game and I thought it was a brilliant performance as well."
Henderson also praised fullback Jon Flanagan, who is still trying to find a way back into the squad (and hopefully secure a new contract along the way) after his 20-month injury layoff. Flanno's early tackle on former Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling was indicative of things to come from the Reds.
"I think Flanno definitely set the tempo of the game, the fans lifted that extra little bit, and from that point the whole team lifted, so that was a big moment in the game."
Hopefully Liverpool will continue to use this anger throughout the rest of the season to continue moving up the table, and advancing in the Europa League. Losing is never fun, but it can be useful if the appropriate lessons are learned.
