Injured Christian Benteke Officially Withdrawn From International Duty

Liverpool striker Christian Benteke made news earlier this week when he went to the press about his lack of playing time and said he felt "discarded" under manager Jürgen Klopp. Now news has broken that a knee injury will ensure his absence from the team for an extended time.

The Belgian FA confirmed on Twitter that Benteke had been withdrawn from the national team squad after picking up the knee injury. Fellow countryman Divock Origi was previously sent back due to a reported thigh injury because Liverpool strikers and international breaks don't mesh well.

It's been a rough couple of months for Benteke. Once the precious acquisition of manager Brendan Rodgers, he has struggled to fit into Liverpool's fluent attacking style. Moreover, his finishing ability is simply not at the standard it needs to be to warrant regular playing time.

Since Klopp took charge, Benteke has been relegated to the bench and is clearly unhappy. And with his knee injury now keeping him sidelined, it seems unlikely that Liverpool fans will get to see much more of him before his seemingly inevitable summer departure.
