Liverpool’s Player of the Month: March

Philippe Coutinho, Dejan Lovren, or Roberto Firmino? You get to decide who becomes Liverpool’s player of the month for March.

Roberto Firmino, having taken home player of the month honours in January and February, has the chance to make it three in a row in March. He’s not the favourite this time around, though. For March, those honours have to go to either Philippe Coutinho or Dejan Lovren.

With only five games played in the month there are fewer performances to look back on—and fewer points to claim, with five awarded for being named Man of the Match by Liverpool Offside readers through to one for coming in fifth in post-match voting. Because of that, only two players hit double digits.

Coutinho was top of the list, tallying 11 points based on finishing first, second, and fourth once each last month. He failed to place in the top five in the other two games. Lovren had ten points total with one Man of the Match award, one third place finish, and two fifth place finishes. He failed to place once.

It would seem to set up a battle between the highs of Coutinho and the consistency of Lovren. Firmino could still pull the upset, though—he earned nine points in total last month. Rounding things out, Adam Lallana and Emre Can earned eight points apiece, while Mamadou Sakho earned seven in March.

In addition to Firmino taking January and February, Liverpool’s past player of the month winners this season were Dejan Lovren in December, Lucas Leiva in November, Mamadou Sakho in October, Danny Ings in September, and Nathaniel Clyne in August.
